Fuel Oil Facts (Continued)

BUYER BEWARE!  Few furnace repair shops in Central Ohio have service technicians that are really qualified to service oilheat systems.  In fact, many furnace shops would rather sell you a new gas furnace or heat pump, than attempt to service or upgrade you oilheat system.  Result... the homeowner spends thousands on a new furnace, that is probably not as warm and comfortable, rather than a few hundred on increasing the efficiency and reliability of their existing oilheat system.

CLEAN:  Modern oilheat systems are among the cleanest of combustion devices.  According to government research agency studies, emissions from residential gas burners are about the same as from equivalent size oil burners.  Properly maintained and adjusted oilheat furnaces should not cause any odor inside you home.

SAFE:  Heating oil is NON-Explosive.  An oil furnace actually atomizes the fuel into a vapor which burns steadily in a sealed chamber.  If a heating oil leak should occur, it is not an explosive hazard.  Leaks can be soaked up using clay based absorbents like kitty litter.  Citrus degreasers, clorox bleach and some deodorizing sprays help to remove oil odor from concrete surfaces.

SUPPLY and DEMAND:  When crude oil is refined into gasoline, heating oil and diesel fuel is produced as well.  As long as there is a need for gasoline, there will be an ample supply of heating oil.  Despite temporary fluctuations in World oil markets prices, in general, heating oil prices have remained relatively low over the long term.
